If you have ever cleaned your own windows only to see streaks appear the moment the sun comes out, you are not alone. That is why most professional window cleaners in Dublin now use water fed pole window cleaning, also known as the “reach and wash” system. Here is how it works, why it leaves glass spotless, and whether it is the right choice for your home or business.

What Is Water Fed Pole Window Cleaning?
A water fed pole is a long, lightweight telescopic pole with a soft brush at the end. Purified water is pumped up through a thin hose inside the pole and out through small jets at the brush head. The cleaner scrubs the glass and frames from the ground, then rinses everything down with the same pure water and leaves it to dry naturally.
At The Happy Window we use the reach and wash system for our outside window cleaning, because it lets us clean upper-floor windows safely without ladders.
Why Pure Water Leaves No Streaks
Normal tap water contains dissolved minerals such as calcium and magnesium. When tap water dries on glass, those minerals are left behind as spots and streaks. Detergents add another layer of residue that attracts dirt.
The water used in a water fed pole system is filtered, usually through reverse osmosis and deionisation, until there is almost nothing left in it except water. Because there is nothing to leave behind, the glass dries completely clear. Pure water also acts like a magnet for dirt, lifting grime off the surface without the need for soap or chemicals.
Benefits of Water Fed Pole Window Cleaning
- Streak-free finish: no minerals or detergent residue left on the glass.
- Safer: windows up to three or four storeys can be cleaned from the ground, avoiding the risks of ladders. The Health and Safety Authority recommends avoiding work at height wherever possible.
- Frames and cills included: the brush cleans uPVC frames, cills and sashes, not just the glass.
- Chemical-free: no harsh products running onto your plants, paving or pets.
- Stays cleaner for longer: with no sticky residue, dirt does not cling to the glass as quickly.
- Privacy: no one climbing ladders to look straight into your upstairs rooms.
Water Fed Pole vs Traditional Squeegee Cleaning
Traditional cleaning with a bucket, scrim and squeegee still has its place, especially for interior glass and some commercial shopfronts. But for the outside of most Dublin homes, the water fed pole method is faster, safer and usually gives a better long-term result, because it cleans the frames as well as the glass and leaves no residue behind.
Why Your Windows Might Look Wet After We Leave
One of the most common questions we get is why the windows are still wet when we finish. That is completely normal. The final rinse with pure water is left to dry naturally, and because the water is so pure it evaporates without leaving any marks. Within a short time your windows will be dry and crystal clear, even if it starts to drizzle shortly after.
Does It Work When It Rains?
Yes, which is handy in Dublin. Rain itself is not the main cause of dirty windows; it is the dust and grime already on the glass that rain smears around. Once that layer has been removed and the glass rinsed with pure water, light rain dries much cleaner. We only reschedule in heavy rain or strong winds, when it is unsafe or impractical to work.
Is Water Fed Pole Cleaning Right for Your Property?
It is ideal for most houses, apartments up to around four storeys, offices and shopfronts. For very high buildings or difficult access we also offer a cherry picker service, and for glass roofs our conservatory cleaning service.
